Scammers are increasingly pretending to be the IRS in order to target hard working taxpayers each year.
This scam peaks in April but can occur all year round and usually occurs by phone.
Follow these tips to help keep you safe from these scammers throughout the year:
The IRS will NEVER:
Call to demand money by using debit, credit or gift card.
Threaten to immediately bring police to have you arrested.
Demand payment without giving you the opportunity to appeal the amount.
If you do get this call:
Do not give out any financial information.
Do not open any links on your computer.
Report to your local law enforcement, the IRS, and the Federal Trade Commission immediately.
